No Solar Tax, NEMSA Guidelines Focus on Safety

Engr Abdullahi Ramat, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), addressed claims regarding a solar tax imposed by the federal government, stating that the recent guidelines issued by the Nigerian Electricity Management Service Agency (NEMSA) are strictly safety measures. Ramat clarified that these guidelines aim to curb the rise in fire incidents associated with faulty solar installations.

He emphasized that there is no solar tax as per President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directives, and the guidelines are aligned with the provisions of the Electricity Act 2023, focusing on safety rather than fiscal policy. Ramat noted that the quality of solar installations is crucial, as unqualified installations can lead to significant hazards.

He outlined key safety provisions, including structural support for installations and proper ventilation. Ramat urged against the spread of misinformation and highlighted the importance of compliance with safety standards in the growing renewable energy sector in Nigeria.
