No State Entered N50m Green Challenge, Oluremi Tinubu Says

On Monday, Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, expressed her disappointment that no state government participated in the N50m prize category of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Green Nigeria Challenge. This initiative is aimed at encouraging youths to transform abandoned spaces and dumpsites into green parks and gardens.

Tinubu made these remarks at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while honoring Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Dr. Mariya Bunkure, the Minister of State for the FCT, for their efforts in transforming the Abuja City Gate into a recreational landmark.

She presented certificates of commendation to both ministers for their environmental initiatives. Tinubu noted that the Household and State categories of the Green Nigeria Challenge remain open until December 20, 2026, and urged state governors' wives to mobilize youth for environmental clubs.

She praised the City Gate transformation as an example of what the initiative aims to inspire and called for greater youth engagement in environmental stewardship.
