Noah Okafor Quits Switzerland National Team Amid Trust Issues

Noah Okafor, a forward for Leeds United, has declared that he will no longer represent the Switzerland national team while Murat Yakin remains head coach. He announced his decision on Instagram on September 10, 2025, citing a serious breakdown in trust with the current management.

Okafor, who has Igbo heritage through his father, was born and raised in Binningen, Switzerland, and previously chose to play for Switzerland over Nigeria, making his international debut in 2019 and earning 26 caps. He expressed that his limited playing time was not the reason for his decision, but rather the reaction to his brief appearance in a World Cup match against Algeria, which left him feeling wounded.

After weeks of contemplation, he concluded he could not continue under the current setup. The Swiss Association confirmed receipt of his decision and expressed respect for his choice.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke stated that Okafor informed him of his decision prior to making it public and pledged the club's support.
