Kelechi Nwakali Leaves Barnsley After One Season

Kelechi Nwakali, a 28-year-old Nigerian midfielder, has parted ways with English League One club Barnsley by mutual consent, with the exit still subject to approval from the English League (EFL). Nwakali joined Barnsley in the summer of 2024 after leaving the Portuguese club Chaves.

During the 2024/25 season, he made 30 appearances across all competitions, including 12 league starts. However, his situation deteriorated in the 2025/26 season due to disciplinary issues, resulting in him being excluded from the squad and effectively frozen out by management.

Although he made a few appearances towards the end of the season, he ultimately left the club without a contract. Barnsley announced the termination of his contract, concluding Nwakali's time at Oakwell after just one full season.

Once regarded as a promising talent in Nigerian football, Nwakali's career has been marked by instability and unfulfilled potential, leaving him currently without a club.
