Sunday Afolabi Reveals Hardships in Nollywood Career

Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi discussed his financial struggles during an appearance on actress Biola Adebayo’s talk show. He revealed that a lack of acting jobs forced him to sell his Nissan Quest for N180,000 and buy a used motorcycle.

Afolabi moved to Badagry to build a house, but this decision negatively impacted his acting career and job opportunities. He mentioned that he could not afford to repair his car after it developed a shock absorber issue.

Afolabi also ventured into photography but faced difficulties securing jobs, and his camera eventually stopped working. He expressed emotional distress over how these hardships affected his wife and children.

Afolabi, who began his theatre career in Lagos in 1970 with Adelove and later worked with the Nigerian Television Authority, has explored various professions, including tailoring and solar installation, when acting did not provide sufficient income. He also mentioned using a minibus for transportation, which has developed an engine problem.
