Gunshots Disrupt APC Senate Primary in Ondo State

On Monday, gunshots disrupted the APC Senate primary election in Akur, Ondo State, triggering widespread panic among residents, motorists, and traders. The incident occurred at Ward 5, Ebenezer African Church Primary School on Amudip Street, leading to confusion as people fled, fearing an armed robbery.

Many business owners closed their shops, and commuters abandoned the area. However, later in the day, calm was restored, and normal activities resumed in the city.

The Ondo State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, dismissed reports of an armed robbery, stating that preliminary investigations indicated the gunfire was linked to activities of political thugs rather than a robbery attack. The police assured the public that credible intelligence suggested the incident was not a robbery but rather sporadic gunfire from suspected thugs.

Security operations were increased around the area to ensure safety.
