Northern Senators Demand Quick Action on State Police Bill

Following recent terrorist attacks in Adamawa and Sokoto states that reportedly claimed the lives of more than 36 Nigerians, including security personnel and worshippers, Northern Senators have urged the Nigerian Government to expedite the implementation of the State Police Bill. This call was made in a statement issued on Friday by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the Chairman of the Forum and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Katsina Central.

The lawmakers emphasized the need for urgent attention from the Presidential Working Group, chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, as well as state governors and Houses of Assembly. They argued that decentralised policing is essential for improving response times and enhancing intelligence gathering at the grassroots level.

The statement condemned the recent attacks in Gaya community, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, and Ungushi village, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
