NSIB Raises Safety Concerns After Enugu Air Runway Overrun

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has raised safety concerns regarding the runway-end environment, control tower line of sight, and availability of meteorological information after a runway overrun incident involving an Enugu Air Limited aircraft. The accident occurred on July 23, 2026, at approximately 2:55 PM, involving an Embraer ERJ 170-100LR aircraft with registration marks 5N-ENR.

The aircraft was operating scheduled flight ENU4264 from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to Oba Akenzua II Airport, Benin, carrying five crew members and 63 passengers. Upon landing on Runway 05, the aircraft overran the runway, striking approach-lighting installations and two fixed concrete structures.

Fortunately, all 68 occupants were evacuated safely without injury. The NSIB issued four immediate safety recommendations numbered A-2026-039 to A-2026-042 to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

The investigation is ongoing, with further technical examinations in progress, and a preliminary flight path recreation video has been released for public transparency.
