ADC Candidates in Northwest Nigeria Sign Development Compact

On Wednesday, the seven governorship candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Northwest Nigeria signed the Northwest ADC Governorship Candidates’ Compact 2027–2031. The candidates include Sabo Mohammed Nakudu (Jigawa), Isa Mohammed Ashiru (Kaduna), Ibrahim Ali Amin (Kano), Ahmad Babba Kaita (Katsina), Abubakar Malami SAN (Kebbi), Manir Muhammad Dan’iya (Sokoto), and Bilyaminu Shinkafi (Zamfara).

This compact aims to tackle insecurity, poverty, food insecurity, unemployment, and weak human development through coordinated action. A Central Coordination Committee, chaired by Rt Hon Abdussamad Dasuki, and other committees were established to oversee the initiative.

The compact outlines a governance framework for the 2027 elections, focusing on security, agriculture, education, healthcare, youth employment, and infrastructure. The candidates acknowledged the interconnectedness of regional issues, citing over 16,000 fatalities and 1,583 kidnappings in the Northwest since January 2023.

They emphasized that insecurity exacerbates economic and social problems, creating a cycle that requires collaborative solutions.
