Umahi Invites EFCC, ICPC to Probe Road Projects for Transparency

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has publicly invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate road projects executed by his ministry. This invitation comes in response to increasing public concerns regarding alleged corruption in infrastructure spending.

Umahi stressed that there is "nothing to hide" and that all project records are available for inspection. He noted that the ICPC has already begun reviewing the procurement processes, and the EFCC is expected to commence its own investigation.

During an event in Abuja, where he received a personal year award, Umahi defended the ministry's decisions, particularly the shift from asphalt to concrete roads, which he argues are more durable and cost-effective in the long run. He cautioned media practitioners against spreading unverifiable reports and urged journalists to prioritize accuracy in their reporting.
