NPFL Drops to 91st in Global League Rankings

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has experienced a significant decline in the latest global league rankings, dropping to 91st position, a fall of 15 places according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). The NPFL accumulated 171.75 points, placing it outside the world's top 90 domestic leagues.

This downturn is attributed to the inconsistent performances of Nigerian clubs in continental championships and the increasing competition in the global football market. In contrast, Egypt's top division has maintained its status as Africa's strongest league for the sixth consecutive year, while Morocco's Botola remains a consistent presence among Africa's elite.

South Africa's Premier League has returned to the top three for the first time in 21 years, and Algeria and Tunisia complete the top five leagues in Africa. Nigeria currently occupies 12th place in the CAF rankings, allowing the country to maintain two slots for CAF interclub competitions.
