NRC to Increase Abuja-Kaduna Train Trips Starting March 2026

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) announced that it will increase the number of trips for the Abuja-Kaduna train service beginning on March 6, 2026. This decision, communicated in a statement signed by Callistus Unyimadu, NRC's Chief Public Relations Officer, aims to address the rising passenger demand along this busy corridor.

The service had previously been scaled down due to incidents such as a bomb blast on March 28, 2022, and a derailment on August 26, 2025, which led to a temporary speed restriction and a reduction in daily trips. The NRC emphasized its commitment to improving capacity, reliability, and safety across its network.

The new schedule will include three trips on Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays, and two trips on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This adjustment follows an increase in service during peak travel periods, such as the festive season in November 2024, although operational challenges have persisted.

The Minister of Transport, Alkaki, has ordered an investigation into ticket rackets, highlighting ongoing management issues on the route.
