Sunday Igboho Launches 20,000-Member Security Network

Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, launched the Iru Ekun Security Network, comprising 20,000 volunteers, at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State. The initiative aims to bolster grassroots security and combat criminal activities in the South-West and parts of Kwara and Niger states.
The media office of Igboho stated that the network is collaborating with the Nigerian Army, the police, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies to address issues such as kidnapping and killings. However, the claims of collaboration and the operational arrangements of the network have not been independently verified.
The Office of the National Security Adviser and the Nigeria Police Force have not responded to inquiries regarding the network's legal status or operational status. The Oyo State Police Command expressed readiness to work with lawful organizations, while the silence from federal security authorities raises questions about the network's registration and permitted activities.
Oyo State is among the states that have endorsed the proposal for the establishment of state police.
