Nigeria's Athletes Arrive in Aberdeen for 2026 Games

Hon. Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) and Chef de Mission for Team Nigeria, arrived in Aberdeen, Scotland, to receive athletes and officials as they prepare for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Nigerian contingent is in the final phase of preparation for the games scheduled to take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, 2026. Olopade inspected the facilities and accommodations, reaffirming the commission's commitment to providing the best possible environment for athletes to excel.

He emphasized the importance of focus and confidence, stating that Nigeria believes the team will make the nation proud. On Friday night, 54 Nigerian athletes successfully arrived at the camp, with officials expected to join over the weekend.

Notable arrivals included captain Folashad Oluwafemiayo, a multiple Paralympic gold medalist, and other high-performing athletes. The team will spend three weeks in Aberdeen to fine-tune their preparations for the competition.
