Team Nigeria Departs for Glasgow Ahead of Commonwealth Games

Team Nigeria has officially departed from Aberdeen, Scotland, for Glasgow as part of their preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The first batch of athletes left today, with three days remaining until the games commence.

The second batch is scheduled to move to the games village on July 24 to join their teammates already in Glasgow. The athletes have been undergoing intensive training in Aberdeen to fine-tune their preparations for this significant sporting event.

The Nigeria Sports Commission is providing technical and medical welfare support to ensure that the athletes arrive in Glasgow in peak condition. Sprinter Tobi Amusan, who recently joined the camp, is targeting her third consecutive Commonwealth title in the 100m hurdles after winning gold in 2018 and 2022.

However, the team's preparations faced a setback with the withdrawal of long jump star Es Brume due to injury, ending her bid to defend her title. Ruth Usoro has been drafted into the squad to compete alongside Prestina Ochonogor in the women's long jump.
