NSC Boosts Team Nigeria Bonuses at Commonwealth Games

The National Sports Commission, led by chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, has announced an increase in performance bonuses for Team Nigeria athletes competing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Following discussions with the director-general, the commission approved a new bonus structure to motivate athletes.

Gold medal winners will now receive a total of $10,000, which includes a $5,000 cash instant reward and $5,000 deposited directly into their accounts. Silver medallists will earn $5,000 in total, comprising a $2,000 cash instant reward and $3,000 to their account, while bronze medallists will receive $3,000, with $1,000 cash instantly and $2,000 to their account.

Dikko noted that the previous structure had been $8,000 for gold, which has now been revised. He also mentioned that all three gold medallists from the Games' opening day received the new $10,000 bonus.

Coaches will receive $5,000 for each gold medal won by their athletes, and athletes are on a daily allowance of $200, while coaches receive $250 per day.
