NSCDC Enhances Role in National Security Operations

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been repositioned as a key player in national security under the leadership of Commandant General Abubakar Audi and Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The Corps has shifted its focus towards intelligence-driven operations, targeting organized crime that undermines the economy, such as vandalism of critical infrastructure, illegal mining, and arms manufacturing.

Recent operations included dismantling a syndicate involved in stealing electricity and telecommunications cables in the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas, leading to arrests of major buyers of stolen materials. This strategic approach aims to disrupt the market for stolen assets.

Additionally, the NSCDC discovered a local arms manufacturing facility in Yobe State, highlighting the domestic production of firearms contributing to insecurity. The arrest of kidnapping suspects in Kano and Edo, including foreign nationals, underscores the transnational nature of modern criminal networks.
