NSCDC Arrests 16 for Counterfeit Dollars and Firearms

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested 16 suspects in Kano State for various offenses, including the possession of counterfeit $600,000 and illegal firearms. The arrests were made on February 27, 2023, at Kwankwasiya City, Zaria Road, Kumbotso Local Government Area.

Abba Garkuwa was apprehended for allegedly printing counterfeit U.S. dollars, which he exchanged for N9 million from victims. Preliminary investigations revealed that Garkuwa received N5.5 million in a Zenith Bank account through a fraudulent transfer orchestrated by accomplice Kabiru Ketti.

Additionally, the operation led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances, including charms and counterfeit identification cards. The NSCDC also arrested suspects involved in illegal mining and kidnapping activities in Edo State, with items such as machetes and shovels recovered.

NSCDC's commandant general, Ahm Abubakar Audi, emphasized the need for intensified investigations to identify and apprehend crime sponsors, highlighting the serious threat posed by these criminal activities to national security.
