NSCDC Arrests Scavenger for Buying Stolen Electric Wires

On June 5, 2026, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) received credible intelligence indicating that certain individuals were engaged in the business of buying and selling suspected stolen materials within Benin City, Edo State. Following this intelligence, the NSCDC's intelligence unit conducted an operation that led to the arrest of Ibrahim Ismail, a 36-year-old scavenger residing on Obakaway Street in Benin City.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ismail allegedly purchased aluminum windows from an unidentified person. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to obtaining the items from an unknown individual and further investigations uncovered that he had also purchased electric copper wires for 30,000 Naira, which were allegedly burnt for processing.

NSCDC spokesperson Akintayo Ayinla reiterated the command's commitment to ensuring that criminal activities do not thrive in Edo State. The investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend others connected to the case, and Ismail is expected to be charged in court.
