NSDC Launches Training Program for Nigeria's Sugar Industry

The Nigeria Sugar Development Council (NSDC) has initiated a pioneering training program to support the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan (NSMP) 2.0, aimed at transforming the nation's sugar industry. The program, held at the Nigeria Sugar Institute (NSI) campus in Ilorin, is designed to create a world-class workforce capable of achieving Nigeria's target of producing 2 million metric tons of sugar domestically.

Kamar Barkin, the NSDC Executive Secretary and CEO, stated that the future of the industry relies on a new caliber of specialists to drive efficiency and profitability across the value chain. The NSMP 2.0 focuses on critical areas such as land preparation, advanced irrigation, and high-yield seed cane production, which are essential for improving factory efficiency and reducing import dependency.

The maiden initiative has already exceeded expectations, demonstrating significant demand and highlighting the urgent need for technical talent to support rapid sector expansion.
