NSIB Investigates Abuja-Bound Train Collision Incident

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation into a train collision involving a passenger train operating on the Rigasa-Idu rail corridor. The incident occurred around 09:16 hours along the Jere-Asham section, where the rear locomotive of the train detached and rolled forward, striking the rear portion of the train.

The train, identified as KA2, had departed Rigasa station in Kaduna and was scheduled to arrive at Idu station in Abuja. It was carrying a total of 429 passengers, including 46 crew members and 24 security personnel.

Although passengers sustained injuries, no fatalities were recorded. Immediate response actions were taken by the Nigerian Railway Corporation's security personnel and medical staff onboard, who provided first aid.

The train continued its journey to Idu station, arriving at approximately 10:39 hours. NSIB Director General Alex Badeh Jr. expressed concern for the affected passengers and emphasized the agency's commitment to uncovering the facts behind the incident to ensure safer railway operations in Nigeria.
