NSIB Warns Against Reduction of Ticket Sales Charge

Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), expressed concerns regarding a proposed reduction of the Ticket Sales Charge (TSC) from 6% to 4%. He stated that this change would significantly impact the Bureau's capacity to fulfill its expanding mandate in transport safety investigations.

During a media chat in Abuja, Badeh highlighted that the NSIB is currently managing an increasing number of investigations across Nigeria's aviation, rail, and maritime sectors. He noted that the Bureau's responsibilities have grown beyond aviation accident investigations, necessitating more funding, specialized equipment, technical expertise, and the deployment of investigators nationwide.

The investigations include notable incidents such as the Arik Air B737-700 engine anomaly, Rigasa-Idu passenger train incident, MV Maersk Valparaiso/MT Lady Martina collision, Warri-Itakpe train derailment, VMO Aero roadway landing near Asaba, Benue River boat accident, and the Enugu Air E170 runway excursion at Benin. The Bureau aims to independently determine the causes of these incidents and develop safety recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
