NSIB DG Warns of Impact from Ticket Charge Reduction

Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), expressed concerns regarding the proposed reduction of the Ticket Sales Charge (TSC) from six percent to four percent. He stated that this change could significantly impact the Bureau's ability to fulfill its expanding mandate in transport safety investigations.

During a media chat in Abuja, Badeh highlighted that the NSIB is currently managing a growing number of investigations across Nigeria's aviation, rail, and maritime sectors. He emphasized the need for increased funding, specialized equipment, and technical expertise to support these efforts.

The Bureau is handling seven major investigations, including incidents involving Arik Air, Rigasa-Idu passenger train, and maritime collisions. Badeh noted that the investigations aim to establish facts, identify contributing factors, and develop safety recommendations.

The funding concerns arise amidst discussions on the distribution of the TSC and Cargo Sales Charge collected in the aviation sector.
