NUJ FCT Chair Advocates for Journalists' Mental Health

Comrade Grace Ik, the Chair of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, urged journalists to prioritize their mental health due to increasing work pressures. This call to action was made during the 2026 NUJ FCT Press Week, which featured a health walk held in Abuja.

The theme of the event focused on exercising mental health and stress management in high-pressure work environments, reflecting the daily realities faced by media professionals. Ik noted that journalists often deal with tight deadlines, late-night assignments, and the challenges of combating fake news, which can lead to significant stress.

She encouraged journalists to adopt regular habits for mental health care, including adequate rest and hydration. Additionally, Ik called on media organizations to provide safer workspaces and better welfare packages for journalists.

Evelyn Onyilo, a former president of NAWOJ, commended the NUJ FCT Council's leadership and the successful coordination of the event, which included a free medical outreach and other activities promoting health awareness among journalists.
