NUJ FCT and Nizamiye Hospital Offer Free Health Checks

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council collaborated with Nizamiye Hospital to offer free medical consultations and health screenings for journalists as part of the 2026 Press Week activities held in Abuja. Comrade Grace Ik, the chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, highlighted the significance of prioritizing health, especially in a profession that often involves high stress and pressure.

She commended Nizamiye Hospital for supporting this initiative, noting that regular medical check-ups are essential for journalists who frequently neglect their well-being while serving the public. Dr.

Uwchukwu Chetachi from Nizamiye Hospital explained that the outreach aimed to provide journalists with access to free medical consultations, examinations, and professional advice, including services from specialists in cardiology, ophthalmology, general practice, pharmacy, and laboratory services. The outreach coincided with the opening of the NUJ FCT Council's 2026 Press Week, themed "2027 Elections: Defend Democracy in an Era of Disinformation." During the event, Ik urged media practitioners to uphold journalistic ethics and combat misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
