NUJ FCT and Nizamiye Hospital Offer Free Health Checks

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council collaborated with Nizamiye Hospital to conduct a free medical outreach for journalists, coinciding with the 2026 Press Week in Abuja. This initiative aimed to promote the health and well-being of media practitioners, who often face high levels of stress due to their demanding roles.

Comrade Grace Ik, the chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, highlighted the need for journalists to prioritize their health, as they frequently neglect their well-being while serving the public. Dr.

Uzochukwu Chetachi from Nizamiye Hospital explained that the outreach provided journalists with access to free medical consultations, examinations, and professional advice, including services from specialists in cardiology, ophthalmology, and general practice. The outreach also included nursing services and laboratory tests, with the medical team diagnosing serious health conditions and referring individuals for further treatment.

The event underscored the theme of the 2026 Press Week, which focused on defending democracy in an era of disinformation.
