NUJ Calls for Action Against Cholera Outbreak in Bauchi

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has called on the Bauchi State government, through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, to intensify its response to a cholera outbreak currently impacting parts of the state. This appeal was made in a communiqué issued after the council's congress held at the Council Secretariat in Bauchi.

The congress noted the recent confirmation of cholera cases across 13 local government areas, prompting the urgent call for enhanced containment efforts. Additionally, the NUJ expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for remodeling the NUJ state secretariat, which they described as one of the best-equipped council secretariats in Nigeria.

The communiqué also urged the state government to recruit more staff, particularly casual workers, to fill vacancies in state-owned media organizations due to personnel retirements. Furthermore, the congress advised journalists to remain security conscious and uphold professionalism and non-partisanship in their coverage of political activities ahead of the upcoming general elections.
