Police Arrest Seven in NURTW Clash in Abuja

On March 23, 2026, at approximately 7:00 AM, the FCT Police Command received a distress call regarding about 300 individuals armed with cutlasses, bottles, and bows and arrows storming the NURTW headquarters located along Sapel Street, Garki II, Abuja. The police, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, DCP Isyaku Sharu, responded swiftly to avert a potential clash.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were attempting to enforce a court order at the premises without the presence of court sheriff officials, leading to a physical confrontation with NURTW members. This altercation resulted in severe machete wounds to victims, necessitating their urgent transport to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The police arrested seven suspects: Sulaiman Ulaiman, Musa Nasiru, Ibrahim Alhaji, Sadisu Musa, Dalha Suleiman, Abdullahi Garba, Sahe Fojebi, and Ibikunle T. Baruwa, who were subsequently charged in Magistrate Court 1, Wuse Zone 2.

The FCT Police Command also addressed circulating videos on social media that falsely claimed police personnel shot members at the NURTW headquarters, asserting their commitment to public safety and security.
