NWF President Backs Team Nigeria for African Wrestling Championship

Bashir Adewal Adeniyi, the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), has extended his strong support for Team Nigeria as they prepare to depart for the 2026 African Wrestling Championship. The team is set to leave from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Tuesday, ahead of the championship scheduled to take place from April 27 to May 2, 2026, in Alexandria, Egypt.

The contingent will consist of 10 female wrestlers and eight male wrestlers competing across 18 categories, including U17, U20, and senior levels. Adeniyi emphasized the importance of maintaining Nigeria's dominance in African wrestling, particularly in the women's category, where Nigeria has won the championship 14 times.

He encouraged the athletes to exhibit discipline and dedication during their training camp and to represent the country with pride, aiming to secure the championship title for the 15th time. Adeniyi reminded the athletes that they are ambassadors of Nigeria and urged them to believe in themselves and maintain high levels of discipline.
