Ebonyi Governor Nwifuru Urges Integrity in Local Governance

On September 23, 2026, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru cautioned newly inaugurated local government chairmen and officials against the misuse of public funds. Speaking in Abakaliki at a three-day capacity-building workshop organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Nwifuru stressed the importance of integrity, transparency, and accountability in public office.

He described public office as a sacred trust and warned against succumbing to pressures that could lead to illegal activities. Nwifuru urged officials to assess their actions regularly and prioritize community interests over personal gains, stating that their conduct would shape their legacy.

Uchenna Igwe, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, echoed the need for a corruption-free work environment. The workshop was attended by various local government officials, including council chairmen and development centre coordinators.

Helen Aduga, representing the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), and Chidi Ogbonna, from the Coordinators’ Forum, both acknowledged the workshop's significance for enhancing governance.
