PDP Youth Leader Condemns Nwifuru's Threat to Chairmen

Francis Okechukwu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Leader in Ebonyi State, publicly condemned Governor Francis Nwifuru's threat to sack newly elected local government chairmen during their inauguration on Wednesday. Okechukwu described Nwifuru's statement as undemocratic and a mockery of the constitutional foundations of local government.

Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, he criticized the governor's perceived high-handedness and reminded him of the non-violent processes that led to his election. Okechukwu emphasized the importance of adhering to the Constitution, stating that a governor should protect the rights of all citizens and foster an atmosphere of peace.

He warned against using local government chairmen for political persecution and asserted that any such attempts would be met with lawful resistance, including actions through the courts and the Independent National Electoral Commission. Okechukwu urged civil society, traditional institutions, and the media to take note of the governor's remarks and help defend Nigeria's democratic integrity in Ebonyi State.
