NYCN Commends Tinubu's CNG Kit Deployment for Transport

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) praised President Bola Tinubu's decision to deploy 100,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion kits nationwide as part of efforts to alleviate rising transport costs and reduce dependence on petrol. This initiative, announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the council's president, Babangida Onimisi Isah, is seen as a strategic intervention to address economic pressures faced by Nigerians due to global disruptions, particularly ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

The NYCN noted that Nigeria remains vulnerable to global market shocks due to its reliance on imported refined petroleum products. The council expressed concerns over rising petrol prices and transport costs, which directly impact daily mobility and essential goods.

They recommended additional government interventions, including temporary subsidies for fuel imports and support for local refining capacities, to stabilize the economy. The NYCN also urged the government to implement strategic food market interventions to prevent price spikes during festive seasons and to consider establishing a transport stabilization support scheme.
