Tinubu Expands CNG Initiative to Include Electric Vehicles

President Bola Tinubu has approved the expansion of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to include electric vehicles (EVs), as announced by his spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Thursday. The initiative will now be known as the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles.

Tinubu has directed Ismael Ahm, the Executive Chairman of the initiative, to immediately establish a coordination process for the rapid deployment of vehicle conversion kits across the country, ensuring that access to these kits is not burdensome for Nigerians. The initiative aims to work with CreditCorp Nigeria and other relevant financial institutions to design cost-effective financing structures for vehicle conversions.

Additionally, the initiative will accelerate the deployment of mobile refuel units (MRUs) to expand access to CNG infrastructure. The overarching goal is to develop a clean mobility strategy that integrates both gas-driven and electric vehicles nationwide, while leveraging Nigeria's abundant resources to strengthen energy security and reduce costs.
