NYCN Advocates Fair Play for 2027 Elections in Nigeria

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), South-East Zone, called for a level playing field for all political parties and candidates in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Comr.

Dr. Atigwe Henry Ifeanyi, Vice President of NYCN, emphasized the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and state governments to investigate alleged exorbitant charges imposed on political aspirants for outdoor advertising. Reports indicated charges reaching as high as N150 million, which could hinder participation from financially constrained candidates, particularly young people.

Ifeanyi urged that regulations on outdoor advertising should be transparent and equitable. The council also expressed concerns over restrictions on opposition parties using public facilities for political events, advocating for fair access regardless of political affiliation.

Furthermore, NYCN called on INEC to enhance monitoring of the electoral environment and ensure compliance with electoral guidelines, stressing that monitoring should commence well before election day to maintain the electoral process's credibility.
