NYSC Rejects N200 Levy Proposal by NANS for Mobilization

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has distanced itself from the proposed N200 annual levy by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), asserting that payment is not required for students seeking mobilization for national service. NYSC spokesperson Caroline Embu issued a statement on Tuesday, clarifying that the organization had neither discussed nor agreed to any arrangement with NANS regarding the collection of a levy.

The NYSC emphasized that it has not entered into any Memorandum of Understanding with NANS concerning this matter. The mobilization process is conducted through official channels involving the NYSC management and Heads of Corps Producing Institutions, which provide information on their graduates.

The NYSC advised students and prospective corps members to disregard any claims suggesting that payment to NANS or any student association is necessary for mobilization. This clarification follows comments from NANS National President Akinteye Babatunde, who indicated that the association was considering the annual N200 due and that students might need to show proof of payment before mobilization.
