NYSC Rejects N200 Levy Requirement for Mobilisation

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a statement distancing itself from reports that a proposed N200 annual levy by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) would be a requirement for student mobilisation into the NYSC programme. This clarification followed comments from NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde, who suggested that proof of payment of the association's dues could be necessary for students seeking mobilisation.

Caroline Embu, NYSC's Director of Information and Public Relations, emphasized that the NYSC has not discussed or agreed to any arrangement with NANS regarding the collection of a levy. The NYSC's mobilisation process is conducted through official channels and is based on policies approved by the Federal Government, involving collaboration with Heads of Corps Producing Institutions.

The NYSC advised the public, especially prospective corps members, to disregard any claims linking NANS dues to the mobilisation process. Babatunde had proposed an overhaul of NANS dues collection, indicating a direct payment system to NANS.
