Obasanjo visits Adeleke in Osun, urges focus on governance

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo travelled to Osun State on Sunday to visit Governor Ademola Adeleke at his residence in Ede, offering congratulations following Adeleke's victory in the state's recent governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Adeleke the winner of the keenly contested race.

Obasanjo's visit came as Adeleke continued to receive felicitations from political figures and other prominent citizens across the country. During the meeting, Obasanjo communicated to the governor the importance of maintaining focus on sound governance and prioritizing the welfare of Osun residents.

The former leader also offered prayers for Adeleke and his administration. According to a statement from Adeleke's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor received Obasanjo with celebration and gratitude for the successful election outcome.

Obasanjo was accompanied by Oyewole Fasawe during the visit. The congratulatory visit signals continued interest from elder statesmen in Adeleke's administration at a time when the electoral outcome remains subject to potential legal action.

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate secured 511,067 votes in the contest, defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes, according to election records. Adeleke, in his response to Obasanjo, expressed commitment to serving the people of Osun State and acknowledged the support he has received following the election.

The visit underscores the pattern of prominent figures from previous administrations engaging with newly elected officials in the country's democratic process.
