Peter Obi Condemns Attack on ADC Secretariat in C'River

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi condemned the attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat in Bakassi, Cross River State, which he characterized as an assault on democracy itself. The incident occurred during the planned opening of the ADC office when suspected political thugs disrupted the ceremony, destroying property and scattering equipment.

Obi stated that such actions reflect a worrying decline in democratic standards in Nigeria, warning that the erosion of leadership integrity could lead the country towards violence. He emphasized that true leadership cannot be established through fraud and violence, which ultimately affects future generations.

The Cross River State police described the perpetrators as hoodlums and deployed officers to restore order in Bakassi. This incident follows a similar attack in Benin City, where ADC chieftain John Odigi Oyegun was also targeted.

Udem Sunday Stephen, believed to be connected to the attack, has been arrested.
