Obi Urges FG to Prioritize Road Rehabilitation Over New Projects

Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to prioritize the rehabilitation of existing roads rather than embarking on new road construction projects. Obi made this statement in a post shared on social media, arguing that repairing current roads would deliver greater benefits to Nigerians than initiating new projects.

He cited the Asaba-Benin road as a vital transport corridor linking several states in the South East and South South regions, which has deteriorated significantly, causing persistent gridlock and hardship for commuters and transport operators. Obi lamented that large sections of this road have become major impediments to traffic flow, inflicting undue hardship on travelers and businesses.

He stressed that the focus should be on reconstructing and maintaining existing road infrastructure, as the current conditions reflect the state of Nigeria's busiest highways.
