Obi Calls for Peace and Credibility in Osun Elections

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, called for a peaceful, free, and credible governorship election in Osun State, ahead of the poll scheduled for Saturday. In a statement shared on X, he emphasized that Osun belongs to its people and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, political parties, and other stakeholders to maintain neutrality and professionalism.

Obi insisted that residents must be allowed to vote freely, safely, and without intimidation, with their votes counted transparently. He appealed to the people of Osun to avoid allowing political competition to divide their communities and cautioned external politicians and influencers against importing violence into the state.

Obi also addressed security agencies, stating their loyalty should be to Nigeria and the Constitution, not political interests. He urged INEC to safeguard the election's credibility from the preparatory stages through to the declaration of results and called on the international community to monitor the election closely.
