Obi Calls for Peace Ahead of Osun Governorship Election

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, called for a peaceful, free, and credible governorship election in Osun State ahead of the poll scheduled for Saturday. In a statement shared on X, he urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, political parties, and other stakeholders to maintain neutrality, professionalism, and restraint.

Obi emphasized that Osun belongs to its people and that residents should be allowed to vote freely without intimidation. He cautioned against political competition leading to community division and violence, urging citizens not to let politicians create discord.

Obi also appealed to external political actors to refrain from importing violence into the state. He reminded security agencies of their duty to protect voters impartially and urged INEC to safeguard the election's credibility throughout all stages, from preparation to result declaration.

Additionally, he called on the international community and election observers to monitor the election closely to bolster public confidence.
