Octogenarian Remanded for Attacking Judge with Machete

On August 31, 2026, Garba, an octogenarian, allegedly attacked Area Court Judge Dauda Hamman with a machete during proceedings at the Mayo-ine Area Court in Fufore Local Government Area. The attack occurred after Garba became upset with the direction of the court proceedings involving himself and Ismai’l Yusuf.

Judge Hamman sustained severe injuries to his hand and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Garba was arraigned on Monday before Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola, where he admitted to the offense, attributing his actions to the devil and expressing remorse.

The police prosecutor, ASP Zakka Musa, stated that the incident was reported at the Mayo-ine Police Station on the same day and subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on September 4, 2026. The court ordered Garba to be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility for causing grievous hurt, as defined by Section 219 of the Penal Code Laws of Adamawa State 2018.

The case is set for hearing on September 17, 2026.
