87-Year-Old Man Charged for Attacking Judge in Court

Dahiru Garba, an 87-year-old resident of Korawa village in Fufore local government area, was arraigned on Tuesday before Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola, Adamawa state. He faced charges for attacking Dauda Hamman, an area court judge at the Mayo-Ine Area Court, Fufore, with a cutlass on 31 August during a case involving him and another man, Ismail Yusuf.

The police reported that Garba struck the judge's hand multiple times, resulting in grievous injuries. Following the incident, he was arrested, and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola on 4 September for further investigation.

Garba was charged with one count of causing grievous hurt under Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa state, 2018. He pleaded guilty during the proceedings, attributing his actions to the devil and expressing regret.

The prosecution was led by Superintendent of Police Zakka Musa on behalf of Commissioner of Police Kabir Hassan. The court ordered Garba to be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further hearings.
