Shehu Sani Warns Kwara Governor on Saraki Charges

Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker, has advised Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to refrain from pursuing criminal charges against former Senate President Bukola Saraki and others in connection with the 2018 Offa robbery. This robbery, which occurred on April 5, 2018, led to the deaths of 33 individuals, including a pregnant woman and 12 police officers.

On April 9, 2026, a Kwara State High Court convicted five defendants for illegal possession of firearms and culpable homicide related to the robbery. The state government has initiated a 20-count charge against Saraki and former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, alleging that they provided arms to individuals convicted in the robbery.

Sani criticized the governor's actions as desperate and politically motivated, urging him to abandon the idea of filing charges against Saraki, emphasizing that such moves could further politicize the issue.
