INEC Postpones Voter Revalidation Exercise to 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the postponement of the nationwide voter revalidation exercise until the 2027 general elections. This decision was communicated by the commission's chairman, Mohan Kudu Haruna, in a statement issued on April 10, 2026.

The postponement follows a meeting of the commission's resident electoral commissioners, during which they reviewed electoral matters. The voter revalidation exercise is a critical component of INEC's mandate to maintain the credibility of the national voter register.

It is designed to verify and update voter records, eliminate duplicate and ineligible entries, and strengthen the integrity of the voter database. INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections in Nigeria.
