Ofugo Youths Protest Poor Roads Amid Coal Mining Impact

The residents of Ofugo and nearby communities in Ankpa Local Government Area, Kogi State, are facing significant challenges due to coal mining activities that have severely impacted their roads, land, and environment. Recently, youths from these communities organized a peaceful protest by blocking a road utilized by coal mining operators.

Their demonstration aimed to attract government and mining companies' attention to the deteriorating condition of the road linking Enabo through Ofugo and Ika. The protest reflects a community's urgent plea for infrastructure and development, as the heavy mining activities have rendered the roads nearly impassable, affecting farmers, traders, students, and other residents who rely on them for daily activities.

The community also struggles with inadequate electricity, lack of clean drinking water, and insufficient educational and healthcare facilities. The grievances of the youths are a call for the government to address the legitimate concerns of communities impacted by economic activities.
