Ogbomoso Chief Ayoad Adeseun Resigns Amid Royal Rift

Ayoad Adeseun, a former lawmaker representing the Oyo Central Senatorial District and a chieftain of the Progress Congress in Oyo State, has resigned from his title amid a conflict with the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoy. Adeseun's resignation follows an indefinite suspension order issued by the monarch on March 23, 2026, due to alleged gross misconduct and insubordination. The suspension letter, signed by palace secretary Toyin Ajamu, highlighted concerns over Adeseun's conduct, which was deemed disrespectful towards the throne. In a press conference, Adeseun expressed his unwillingness to reconcile with the Soun, attributing his decision to the monarch's divisive policies and a lack of readiness to engage in conflict. He emphasized that the issues at hand are not based on religion, as he noted the peaceful coexistence of Christians and Muslims in Ogbomoso. Adeseun's stance reflects a broader concern regarding the traditional institution's integrity and its relationship with the community.
