Ugborodo Community Seeks Army Investigation After Killing

The Ugborodo Management Committee (UMC) has formally petitioned the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, regarding the release of suspects arrested with sophisticated weapons during the invasion of Ogidigben community on December 20, 2025. This incident led to the killing of youth leader Onuwaje Emiko.

The UMC claims that prominent Itsekiri figures, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), are attempting to obstruct justice. The petition, dated June 29, 2026, and sent by attorney P.

O. Aihiokhai Esq., alleges that Nigerian Army personnel were involved in the arrests but that the suspects were released without investigation.

The UMC asserts they possess video evidence showing one suspect, Gbubemi Meke, boasting about his release on social media. The petition expresses concerns over the community's safety, stating that the suspects, now free, are regrouping and threatening further violence, which has severely impacted the social and economic life of Ogidigben.
