Edo Community Seeks Governor's Help After Farmer's Death

The Imoga community in the Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State has appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo for intervention after the killing of resident Monday Obanigba by suspected herders. In a protest letter dated July 20, 2026, and signed by Jeffery Obasanmi, the community urged the governor and security agencies to address the escalating insecurity threatening their livelihoods and food security.

The letter describes the killing as part of a disturbing trend of violent attacks, exacerbated by the community's geographical location near Kogi and Ondo states, which facilitates cross-border criminal activities. The community requested the establishment of a permanent security base and stronger collaboration among security agencies in the three states.

Alabi Oshionogue, Chairman of the Akoko Edo Local Government Area, called for intensified efforts from the Edo State Security Corps to combat insecurity, expressing disappointment over the ongoing issues despite resources allocated for security. Topa Okomayin, Secretary to the Local Government, criticized the lack of dedication among security personnel.
