Ogun ADC Suspends Jimi Lawal, Forms Caretaker Committee

The Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) announced the suspension of Jimi Lawal due to alleged anti-party activities, as disclosed by the state chairman, Femi Soluad, in a statement issued on Saturday in Abeokuta. This decision aims to restore stability and internal cohesion within the party.

Lawal, a former aide to ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, is accused of actions contrary to the ADC's internal democratic framework, including attempts to dominate the party structure and dismantle existing local leadership frameworks in Ijebu Ode and Sagamu. In response, a caretaker committee has been constituted to oversee party affairs temporarily until a state congress is convened, with the date yet to be announced.

Soluad confirmed that interim local government and ward executives will continue to function alongside membership mobilization efforts. Lawal has dismissed the suspension, claiming that Soluad lacks the authority to make such a decision and asserting that he does not wish to engage in disputes regarding party ownership.
